SLOVAKIA 2005

 

In July 2005 4 of our gymnasts were selected by the Aerobic gymnastics TC to attend an elite training camp in Slovakia for a week’s intensive training.

This was an honour as there were only 10 places given to aerobic gymnasts from the UK -and 4 went to our club!!

 

Kelsie Buck, Erin Hughes,Rachel Gaskell and Katy Longden were the chosen few along with coach Leanne Markey who was asked to accompany the Head Of Delegation Nigel Saunders as his assistant coach.

 

During this week the GB gymnasts were lucky enough to be trained by some of Europe’s top coaches.

 

This fantastic opportunity was funded by Sefton’s gifted and talented bursary, managed by John Shemult, and the gymnasts own schools, Stanley, Greenbank and Formby high.

 

In November Leanne Markey led a workshop in Southport ,with the four gymnasts, to pass on the training skills they learned in Slovakia. This was an excellent way for advanced training programmes to be relayed to clubs and was very beneficial to everyone.

 

It is hope that many more gymnasts will be given the opportunity to travel abroad for training and competition in the future.
